Hi, I'm Ruby Lezama from Santa Ana, CA. I started jiu-jitsu at age 5 when my parents enrolled me at AOJ Academy in 2018 to keep me engaged while my dad was deployed. After some time, my Professor, Tainan Dalpra, noticed that I was able to keep up with the high level AOJ competition team so he encouraged me to start competing as a yellow belt.

Despite initial challenges, I learned to manage my emotions and trust myself, which helped me build confidence.In just two years, I became JJWorld league season champion, a 2x PAN Kids Champion and was ranked #1 in 2023 in the IBJJF Female Yellow Belt division for my age group. When I turned 11 last November I was promoted to Orange belt by Professor Gui Mendes and Tainan Dalpra.

As an honor roll student in school, I train three times a day, six days a week. One hour before school and two after school/Homework. It's not easy but it is possible.My goal is to excel academically and achieve black belt world champion status by following Hyperfly's motto, "You can't teach heart," both on and off the mat.
