Created by Buddhist monks over 3000 years ago as a non-violent form of self-defense to be used against much stronger soldiers and thieves, it was later adapted by the samurai for its effectiveness in battle.
Today, Jiu Jitsu has become a global phenomenon that transcends all other sports in that it requires a level of dedication and mental toughness.
As Rickson so eloquently stated,
"Physical strength (hard work), mental strength (perseverance) and spiritual strength (love & acceptance) are the keys to continuous growth (..)" and traits all those who train will understand more than most.
Jiu Jitsu athletes from around the world share this special bond and it is this bond we celebrate.
