Hey, I'm Michaela Salvador, and my journey into the world of martial arts started off when I was just at 3, diving into gymnastics and taekwondo. By the time I hit 6, I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My very first competition was on my 7th birthday, and since then, there's been no looking back.
I'm lucky to train under the guidance of incredible black belts, Lavinia Barbosa and Daniel Diniz, both students of the legend Lucas Leite at Checkmat Upland. Having Lucas as the head Professor at my gym adds a whole new level of expertise to my training. In addition to my martial arts journey, I'm also homeschooled, allowing me to balance academics with my passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Some of my proudest moments include taking gold at the IBJJF American Nationals and Jiu Jitsu Con in 2023. That same year, I was the #1 rank in the IBJJF Junior 2 Roosterweight division. I was also a back-to-back JJWL Season Champion in 2022 and 2023.Now, at 11, rocking the grey and black belt, every roll on the mat feels like a step forward in my exciting journey.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn't just a sport for me; it's a way of life, it's where my heart belongs. I'm excited for the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead of me that I know will help mold me to be a better athlete and person.
