KATAKANA COLLECTION

In partnership with the NBA, Hyperfly has realized a series of remixed basketball team gear saluting the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. First launched in December 2020, the handmade hoodies are the first of several collaborative drops to come. Each 20oz raw cotton garment has been treated with Japanese indigo black dye, yielding an especially deep tone that slightly differs on each piece.

The printed imagery is similarly Eastern-influenced, featuring the logos of each team and branding done up in Japanese Katakana characters, playfully altering the shape of each teams’ recognizable motif. White sleeve prints complete the design.

The Katakana collection has since expanded to include Kimono Jackets, and full Jiu Jitsu Gis.

NBA X JASPER WONG

In celebration of the Asian American & Pacific Islander heritage month beginning in May, the NBA in collaboration with Jasper Wong and HYPERFLY created a capsule commemorating Asian culture. Crimes targeting Asian Americans rose dramatically since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Stop AAPI Hate, a coalition that tracks incidents of violence and harassment against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the U.S., reported over 3,800 instances of discrimination against Asians in the past year. The actual number could be much higher. Therefore, when the NBA asked Jasper Wong and HYPERFLY to design and build a capsule of tees and hoodies representing their support for the Asian community and Asian culture, they took the responsibility with the care and sensitivity it demands from an Asian-Centric perspective.

The NBA, HYPERFLY AND JASPER WONG donated proceeds to programs that invest in research to understand, address, and end bias, discrimination and xenophobia, against AAPI communities.

YEAR OF THE TIGER

This NBA collection shows its respect to the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Tiger. It features NBA team logos recreated by hand into Mandarin and a meticulously hand-drawn Asian Vintage Tattoo stylized Tiger on the back. The Tiger is almost 2 feet long and illustrated in the traditional vintage form used by Asian tattoo artists in years long gone by.

NBA + MY HERO ACADEMIA

The NBA x MY HERO ACADEMIA x HYPERFLY collection marks a new chapter in the history of Anime as it is the first time a professional sport’s league has collaborated with an anime series. The latest young generation of NBA players grew up on anime and brought their love of the artform to the game. Their worlds collide and release a powerful fusion of heart, strength, honor and love represented in the first collection brought to you by HYPERFLY featuring MY HERO ACADEMIA’s iconic ALL MIGHT.

The classic team colors of the Bulls, Lakers, Knicks and Warriors harmoniously intertwine with the iconography of All Might in a powerful statement that transcends our universe of anime and the NBA.
