This is hands down the best Gi I have ever owned. You can truly see a difference in quality between this Gi and other brands. The weight of it is perfect and my training partners have stated on multiple occasions how difficult it is to grip. As far as sizing goes, I usually wear and A1 so I decided to size down and bought an A0. With one was on warm, it now fits perfect.
Fit: Originally I was concerned about the sizing but it was fine and I actually shrunk it down a little (I’m an A2 in Hyperfly). So that worked perfect.
Style: To my surprise, the Gi was even better in person than online. The details are endless on this thing. I’ve bought a lot of Gis and dare I say it - I like this one even more than my Judo Fly Gis. The patterns. The stitching. The design is incredible. So many little details to uncover once you unpack it.
Important stuff: it’s hard to get a grip on. The cuffs on the pants/top are reinforced in such a way that it’s like trying to get a cat’s paw grip on aluminum. The collar is a very wide/sturdy and dense foam collar making it incredibly hard to grip. If you want to EASILY break grips - or prevent others from getting solid grips on you - then this is the Gi for you.
The Gi appears to be very well made, but unfortunately I am in the process getting the correct size With that, I am very much looking forward to getting the right size and giving it a spin. The Gi is unexpectedly soft and looks great and that alone is worth 3 stars. More to come.
Very comparable to the JudoFly series, with a few different design features. Keep in mind that all gis of this style run almost one size bigger.
First, the gi itself is fantastic... which is why I was so utterly disappointed then I put the thing on and it fit like a clown suit. This is my third Hyperfly and I've never had trouble sizing. I did follow guidance by going a size down. The measurements are comically inaccurate. Also keep in mind, heavy material won't shrink well. Patchwork/embroidery look bad when shrunk. In other words, don't count on heat shrinkage to get this thing to fit.. go much smaller.
Here was my experience. I'm an A2 and ordered an A2S. The wingspan came in at A3/A2L measurements, according to the Hyperfly size chart.
Official A2S wingspan 63.5" --- vs. --- actual wingspan on my A2S 68" (4.5 inches longer). Just begging to be sleeve gripped.
Is it IBJJF legal? Short answer, yes. IBJJF legal until 2021. I had to ask customer service since it wasn't clear on the page. Here's what they said.
"The IBJJF is currently updating their uniform requirements and have stated that they will announce the changes some time after Worlds (late May / early June), and will enforce these changes starting 2021."
